"Will liver cirrhosis affect edibles and tinctures and how they work? I cannot get any relief from edibles. And I recently got diagnosed with COPD and I cannot hold in the smoke. I have a medical card, but nobody seems to know anything …Please help"
Hi there. I’m not a doctor, but hopefully one can chime in. I did find a previous Q&A on our site where a doctor recommended a high-CBD tincture to someone with cirrhosis to decrease chronic inflammation. Hope this helps and that you get the answers you need!

Cannabis is metabolized primarily in the liver, but unlike alcohol it does not seem to be toxic to the liver or other organs. Depending on how advanced your cirrhosis is, there could be an effect on the movement of ingested cannabis through the liver and on to the rest of the body. If your COPD prevents you from inhaling, you might try tinctures or lozenges meant to be held in the mouth. Cannabis can be absorbed directly from the mouth with effects usually in 10 minutes or so. Once swallowed, a tincture is just an edible and will have to be absorbed from the stomach and passed through the liver before it reaches the rest of you. Have you considered inhaling vaporized cannabis? I suggest checking with your pulmonary physician regarding the relative safety of that route given your lung condition.
