I am not sure from this question if you are asking for the strain or type of cannabis that would work well for pain or how to use your cannabis for the most effective results in reducing pain and inflammation.
For pain and inflammation, please use CBD cannabis. Vaporizing hi CBD oil is the fastest route that will produce results, with pain relief in minutes. THC makes you not care that you have pain, so that may be used also.
The male genitals are innervated two major areas of the spine, L1-L2 (let your hands rest on your hips with your thumbs pointed towards the spine and you are at L4) and the other major innervation is at the sacrum, so please apply the cannabis salve throughout this area to block the pain signals. You may receive additional benefit by treating the very top front of the thigh. The cannabis salve is not absorbed systemically but it will give you pain relief by blocking the pain signals from going to the brain.

To piggy back off of what @drolson said, cannabidiol, or CBD, has the ability to bind to certain parts of the brain to reduce the sensation of pain and alleviate certain symptoms. From my experience, indica strains has given me a relaxing feeling and reduces the stress that comes with having pain. A combination of THC and CBD will create the entourage effect, "which will help achieve a greater therapeutic benefit while reducing the adverse reactions of THC-only medications," which will be beneifical during the recovery of your vasectomy.(seeย https://www.hellomd.dev/articles/what-is-the-entourage-effect)
There are tons of different cannabis salves, or topicals, that will help with the discomfort of a vasectomy. One of my favorites is the Sweet Releaf Extra Strength which has helped me with back pain. I believe, if applied how Dr. Olson instructed, will help relieve your discomfort. Another popular brand that is very effective, and many people will attest to the succsess they’ve found, is the Lord Jones High CBD. Thanks for reaching out re. cannabis for vasectomys. Before we get to post vasectomy, I read that 48 hours before the procedure your doctor may ask that you to not take asprin or asprin-like products. If that’s the case and you need pain relief, a high-CBD marijuana strain could be a good replacement for Tylenol or Advil.
After your vasectomy you might get some pain meds sent home with you, or your doctor might think that over the counter painkillers will be enough. If you’d like to use cannabis for pain relief after your vasectomy, I agree with the previous answers in that inhaled cannabis (vaping or smoking) will give you the quickest pain relief. If you find yourself waking in the middle of the night because of the pain, try a cannabis edible before bed so that you have pain relief that lasts through the night.
Please talk with your doctor before your vasectomy about your wish to use cannabis as a post-procedure pain reliever.
I’ve also included a link below to other Q&As on our site from people asking about using marijuana post-surgery, it may give you some additional information about consuming cannabis after your vasectomy that you can share with your doctor. Good luck!
