Q&A

Is there a danger in using cannabis if you have high blood pressure?

Cannabis intoxication can result in increased heart rate (tachycardia) and increased cardiac output with little or no increase in blood pressure. High doses of cannabis may decrease heart rate (bradycardia) and lower blood pressure (hypotension).

There is no evidence that long term use of cannabis has a significant effect on blood pressure. In general, smoking cannabis is discouraged because products of combustion may be harmful to the heart and blood vessels and may pose risks to patients with cardiovascular disease.
