Q&A

Is it ok to use cannabis if I have a stent?

Cannabis should be okay if you have a stent and your cardiac condition is well controlled. However, some studies have shown that cannabis use could be associated with acute coronary syndrome or myocardial infarction. It is important to be followed closely by a healthcare provider who knows all the medication you are taking including the use of medical cannabis. Cannabis is known to interact with the blood thinner Coumadin which some people with stents might take. It could also decrease your blood pressure. You should monitor your blood pressure at home when using cannabis if you are taking blood pressure medication. I would also advise to try sublingual administration instead of inhalation. It is important to use cannabis safely and start with the smallest dose possible to achieve symptom relief.
