Q&A

I'm having surgery and want to avoid pain meds and I'd love some suggestions?

"THC tends to make me anxious. Is there a suggestion of how to use marijuana to help with pain and allow me to avoid excessive pain meds post surgery? I assume I will need some but want to avoid too much Vicodin or OxyContin."

You might consider marijuana products that contain a higher concentration of CBD, cannabidiol.

This is a cannabinoid found in cannabis which seems to be especially helpful for pain and inflammation. CBD by itself is not psychoactive and should not increase anxiety. It also counteracts the psychoactive effects of THC.

Strains have been grown to be higher in CBD and lower in THC for patients that dislike the effects of THC. There are also CBD oil tinctures and edibles available which are longer acting than inhaled medicine. I would recommend a ratio of CBD to THC of 1:1, or greater.

Best wishes for your surgery!
