Q&A

If a topical like Sweet Releaf works on my arthritic hands, how long will the relief last?

Topical cannabis has been found to be highly effective in decreasing inflammation and pain due to arthritis, as well as in the treatment of muscle soreness and skin conditions. These benefits are due to the analgesic (pain relieving), anti-inflammatory, and anti-spasmodic (muscle relaxing) properties which cannabinoids impart.

I think the safest answer to your question is that the period of relief varies, as it depends on a number of factors. These factors include the specific product being used, the quantity applied, how well the topical is worked into the skin, the condition being treated, and the severity of the condition.

Because little or no topical medicine is absorbed into the blood stream, there tend to be no systemic / psychoactive effects; therefore, as little or as much medicine may be applied as frequently as needed. Most patients will benefit from 2-3 applications daily.

I agree with Dr Edmunds that the period of time one experiences relief can vary according to a number of factors, including the severity of the arthritic condition, the way in which this cannabis topical is applied, and even in some cases, the time of day it is applied. For instance, for mild arthritis like stiffening of the fingers or joints and a slight burning feeling in those areas, simply applying a light coat of topical and massaging it into the sore areas for a few minutes can really help loosen things up and reduce,or even eliminate pain for up to 3 to 4 hours, maybe more.

I have mild arthritis in my hands, so I start first thing in the morning, applying Sweet ReLeaf by really rubbing it into my fingers for several minutes until it’s mostly absorbed. Within a few minutes, my fingers usually warm up, then loosen up and the pain lifts away, generally for several hours. Sometimes I’ll re-apply it in the afternoon, sometimes not depending on how much it’s bothering me. Occasionally, if my hands feel really stiff, I’ll sit down while watching TV at night and massage my fingers & hands for 15 or 20 minutes which always feels really good & has resulted in my fingers feeling more flexible than usual the next day. For moderate to severe arthritis, I would consider using a stronger version like the extra strength Sweet ReLeaf which works better on deep chronic pain.
