As an anti-inflammatory, immunomodulator and analgesic, SLE should most certainly be an accepted condition in NYC. However, very unfortunately, NY has some catching up to do in regards to the medicinal value of cannabis. The following are the only conditions accepted as of yet:
Cancer, positive status for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, damage to the nervous tissue of the spinal cord with objective neurological indication of intractable Spasticity, Epilepsy, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, neuropathies and Huntington’s Disease.
However, chronic pain was recently added to the covered conditions. Accordingly, I see no reason why SLE would not qualify for an approved medical cannabis recommendation in NYC.

As an anti-inflammatory, immunomodulator and analgesic, SLE should most certainly qualify you for medical cannabis. However, in NYC, cannabis treatment has only been approved for the following conditions:
Cancer, positive status for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, damage to the nervous tissue of the spinal cord with objective neurological indication of intractable Spasticity, Epilepsy, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, neuropathies and Huntington’s Disease.
Fortunately, chronic pain has recently been added to the list of approved conditions. Accordingly, I see no reason why SLE would not qualify you as a medical cannabis patient.

Like Dr. Kim already mentioned in New York state SLE is not a qualifying condition. However, you may be able to qualify under chronic pain. Chronic pain according to New York State DOH is defined as pain any severe debilitating pain that the practitioner determines degrades health and functional capability, that has intolerable side effects, that has lasted for or is expected to last for at least three months, and other modes of therapy that has failed to treat or that cannot be treated by another therapy because it would be harmful.
