Q&A

I have intense migraines and I find too much THC actually makes them worse. Is Harlequin a good strain for me?

"I have found that most strains exacerbate pain for me. I am now thinking of trying a strain high in CBD. Is this a good strain for me?"

Strains with a high percentage of CBD often work well for migraines, pain relief, and anxiety.

Harlequin may be one of the best strains available for migraine treatment. It typically has a CBD/THC ratio of 5/2. The CBD should enhance the pain-killing effects of THC while preventing its intoxicating effects. Furthermore, harlequin is a sativa dominant (75/25) strain, which should allow you to have an alert, clear head while managing your headaches during the day.

Harlequin is a great start in your experiments with CBD. It is a high-CBD strain – almost 2:1 ratio of CBD to THC – and it is readily available. CBD is often prescribed for headache, migraine, and chronic pain, so trying some higher CBD flower or other products is likely a worthwhile experiment. Additional options may be to try an even higher CBD strain, such as Charlotte’s Web. You may also want to try other cannabis products with even higher CBD ratios. There are many tinctures and edibles that start around 4:1 and go up to 20:1 CBD to THC. Throughout the whole process, it may be a good idea to keep a written log of the strain and ratio you try, the dose, and how it affected your migraines.
