Q&A

How to avoid the munchies at night.

"I use cannabis at night for relaxation, but THC is an appetite stimulant and it is bad for my health to eat at night – acid reflux. What strains will not cause the munchies but still give a strong high, or what strategies counter the munchies when smoking in the evening?"

You’re right–appetite stimulation is a known effect of THC which can be helpful for some people, but an undesired effect for others. Of all of the known active ingredients in cannabis, CBD is the second most well-known, and often its content is tested and labelled on cannabis products. Based on animal studies, selecting a product with a higher content of CBD can help reduce the munchies. A lesser known cannabinoid called THCV has also been shown to reduce appetite, although it can be a harder to find.
