Q&A

How do I get a California state medical ID card?

"I have a card from HelloMD. Can I use that to get medical marijuana ID from Alameda County in California? I’m told that with that ID, purchases are exempt from sales tax."

If you are in the state of California you will need to have a consultation with a doctor and have one of the medical conditions that is officially recognized by the state of CA. HelloMD is the largest Telehealth provider in the state and if you would like to receive your consultation online via a video consultation you will need a camera on your desktop, tablet or smart phone. We also have an IOS app called HelloMD.

Before the consultation you will need to show proof of age with a government ID such as a driver’s license or passport. You will also need to be within the state at the time. You will fill in your medical history, pay and then see the doctor. Our hours are 7 days a week from 10am to 7pm. After the consultation the doctor will send you a letter which states whether you have been approved.

The consultation is private, just like any other doctor’s records. If approved you will receive two letters of recommendation and a medical card. Although almost every dispensary will only honor the letters, which are considered the valid recommendation. If you are out of state you can get a consultation but not every dispensary will accept an out of state license.

I hope this helps!
