Q&A

Does CBD or THC lower platelet and white blood cell count?

"In the case of a Glioblastoma brain tumor that was removed 99%. Supplementing treatment with CBD and some THC at night. Platelet count is low and not responding to injections. Liver enzyme numbers are also going the wrong way. "

Hello,

I don’t believe cannabis has contributed to the low platelet count. In fact, in a 2014 study, researchers concluded that the endocannabinoid 2-AG stimulated baby blood cells to become platelets (megakaryocytic differentiation).ย  2-AG, like THC (a phytocannabinoid), binds the cannabinoid-1 (CB1) and cannabinoid-2 receptors (CB2), leading to different physiological reactions, such as lowering inflammation and stimulating platelet formation. However, this study used supraphysiological doses and most likely would not translate to real-world doses of cannabis.

Additionally, there are several studies which suggest than cannabis increases platelet function, which is why researchers are investigating cannabis’ potential as a treatment for coagulation disorders, suchย  Hemophilia A. However, these studies also involved supraphysiological doses.

I hope this was helpful.
