Q&A

Does CBD oil inhibit the absorption of prescription medications, specifically anti-depressants and statins?

Hello,
Serious drug interactions have not been seen with Cannabidiol (CBD) in combination with any other drug. There have been very few adverse interactions reported. However, marijuana can affect the absorption rates of some prescription medications. Cannabis interacts with the metabolic pathway Cytochrome P450 in the liver & intestines. Some statins and anti-depressants also interact with the P450 enzymes. Marijuana may increase the antidepressant and statin levels in the blood. I would engage with the provider that placed you on your meds, in order to monitor the effects as an extra safety precaution.
