"I want to get my New York medical marijuana card but don’t want my insurance company to know about it."

No. The Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule prohibits HelloMD from sharing any private health information. The registered practitioner that you meet with must share your patient information with the New York State Department of Health (NYDOH) in order for them to confirm whether you are eligible to participate in the New York Medical Marijuana program.

No. The Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule limits the disclosure of protected health information without a patient’s consent. We do not share your information with insurance companies. Patient information may be shared with the New York State Department of Health through the state’s prescription monitoring system and to verify that a patient is eligible for medical cannabis.
