Q&A

Do most oncologists agree that marijuana use during chemotherapy is OK? Should I alert my doctor?

I am not sure you can say “most”. The Majority of Oncologists practicing currently received their medical training when very little was taught about cannabis due to its status as a schedule 1 drug. There is a growing body of scientific evidence to support use of cannabis for symptomatic relief during cancer treatment, but also potentially in the use of some cancers. It would be hard to ignore the current buzz and number of growing publications as well as popular reports related to cannabis benefits.

I would encourage you to speak to you doctor regarding his/her views on cannabis use and level of education he or she has about cannabis. If you are using cannabis and under treatment, it is important that your physician is aware, so they can consider all variables in care planning.
