If you would like to maintain your medical marijuana recommendation, then yes! You are required to meet with the doctor once every 12 months to ensure your cannabis treatment is going well! However, you are not REQUIRED to renew your medical recommendation if you do not want to. Depending on your location [in California] you may be in an area where recreational cannabis sales have begun, and a recommendation is not required. With that said, please note if you only have Medical Dispensaries in your area, you will still need a recommendation to enter and purchase products.
