Q&A

Do I need to remain a medical patient after Prop64?

"If the benefit of being a patient is solely the break on the 7.25% State tax – yet it will cost a $100 State registration fee – then that means I would need to spend over $1500/yr on cannabis medication to break even. That, along with the privacy issues around registering with state, mean that I have no incentive of being a medical user – or am I missing something?"

The proposition caps recommendation fees at $100, so if you previously paid $50, it’s probably still going to be $50.

There are other benefits- prop 64 caps the amount of cannabis you can have at 1 ounce and caps the number of plants you can grow at 6. Those rules don’t apply for medical patients.
