Q&A

CBD versus THC?

"What’s the difference and what do I need to know as a new consumer?"

Both CBD and THC are cannabinoids, along with CBN, THCA, and 90+ others. Each cannabinoid serves a purpose in our endocannabinoid system. Each cannabinoid has a different function.

THC is the cannabinoid that gives the patient a "buzz" or a head high as it is psychoactive. THC is used to treat nausea, act an appetite stimulant, reduce blood pressure, calm asthma, and treat glaucoma.

Believe it or not, Cannabis is NOT psychoactive until heat has been applied either through combustion or heating (baking, coil from vaporizer, etc).

CBD is a cannabinoid that is NOT psychoactive, however it does calm the mind and body. CBD should be used when you experience negative effects from THC.Are you feeling jittery? having racing thoughts? a fast beating heart? CBD will quell these negative effects in a pinch.

Both THC and CBD are part of an estimated 85 different chemical compounds found in cannabis known as cannabinoids. Cannabidiol โ€” CBDโ€” is a compound in cannabis that has significant medical effects, is non-psychoactive and can actually counter the psychoactivity of THC. The reduced psychoactivity of CBD-rich cannabis may make it an appealing treatment option for patients seeking anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic, and/or anti-spasm effects without disconcerting lethargy or dysphoria.
