Cbd oil and citalopram

"I am taking 20 mg of citalopram daily. Can I use cbd oil at the same time?"

Hello,
Although CBD and citalopram are both metabolized by the CYP2C19 enzyme of the P450 pathway, at typical doses, they are safe to take concurrently.

Theoretically, however, when taking very high doses of CBD, plasma levels of citalopram might rise significantly – leading to concerns of serotonin syndrome. Although, in the absence of compromised liver function, those concerns would only arise when taking very high doses of CBD.

There was a case report which suggested that extremely high doses of CBD can lead to markedly elevated levels of coumadin – which is also a competitive inhibitor of the CYP2C19 enzyme. However, even at doses averaging about 250mg of CBD, coumadin levels were only slightly elevated.
