What is the cannabis tax rate in California? Does my prescription get me a lower price?

Hi there! As of January 1st, 2018 California cannabis consumers will pay a 15% excise tax to retailers, in addition to local taxes. In some communities, it’s been estimated these new taxes could increase prices by as much as 70%. Keep in mind that your city’s sales and use tax will be waived at the dispensary if you possess a Medical Marijuana Identification Card (MMIC) issued by the California Department of Public Health.
