Q&A

Do any drugs interact with cannabis? Is there any drug that is risky to take if using Cannabis?

Hopefully, one of the HelloMD doctors can answer more directly, but here is a link to Dr. Dustin Sulaks health provider education PDF. In it he decribes some of the drug interactions with cannabis, might be a good place to start.

Thank you for the great question.
There are several drugs which are affected by cannabis (and vice versa.) Because ingested cannabis travels through the liver before entering the blood stream (first-pass metabolism), edibles have the most pronounced effect on medications which are changed and broken down by the liver. And since marijuana affects a few different enzymes, either inducting or inhibiting, marijuana might increase or decrease how quickly the liver breaks down some medications.
