The literature has some case-reports of pts using cannabis to help w/ the pain crises that can come from this debilitating disease. However pt’s with sickle cell often have reduced lung function from countless micro-infarcts in the lung tissue. If one were to try med cann products to treat sickle cell pain, I would advise to use only tinctures, edibles and topicals. In any case, med cann shouldn’t take the place of a regular MD or a hematologist to monitor for low blood counts and to also suggest agents that might actually better treat the sickle cell.
