Q&A

Will my local cannabis dispensary be forced to shut down after Prop 64?

"I heard that will all the new compliance rules, many of these business might be forced out of business. Is this true?"

As Tip O’Neil said, "All politics are local". You have to check with the city or county in which your dispensary resides. Local ordinances, and the particular location of your shop, will dictate whether or not it stays open. The best thing to do is speak with the manager of your shop and find out what their game plan is.

If they do, they’ll be replaced by business with enough money to comply with the new regulations. Frankly, I think it will be a good thing if dispensaries are required to test all product coming to their sites for banned pesticides. That is, assuming CA withstands the pressure from "Big Pot" to ban pesticides whose effects on humans have not been tested enough to be known to be safe. Otherwise, we’ll end up like Colorado: https://www.denverpost.com/2015/10/03/colorado-yields-to-marijuana-industry-pressure-on-pesticides/
