Q&A

I'm a long-distance runner. Can marijuana help with recovery?

"A bit of background: I’ve been a distance runner for the last 10 years after starting in high school. I don’t recover as quickly as I used to and would like to use something natural (not ibuprofen), to help with the muscle soreness I experience. I don’t want to feel lethargic (which is how I felt when I used marijuana recreationally in college) and don’t want to adversely affect my aerobic capacity. Any advice would be appreciated."

While we don’t have any evidence that marijuana speeds recovery from exercise, it does have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties which may be helpful for treating your discomfort. Strains / products higher in CBD and lower in THC may be helpful for treatment while being less intoxicating. There are also topical salves that can be applied directly to the musculoskeletal area(s) that are in pain.
