Q&A

How do I know I am meeting with a registered practitioner?

"I know that in New York state, only "registered practitioners" are permitted to issue recommendations."

Registered practitioners are either a Physician or a Nurse Practitioner. Only practitioners that are registered with NYS Medical Marijuana Program can issue you a certificate to recommend for use.

All registered practitioners have undergone a certification course issued by the New York State Department of Health and then have registered through the Department of Health prior to becoming active practitioners on HelloMD.

n New York State, licensed physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants must complete a four (4) hour CME accredited approved online course to be recognized by NYS to be able to certify and recommend a patient for medical cannabis use. They must then register themselves with the NYSDOH Health Commerce System. To find out if your physician is registered, visit https://www.health.ny.gov/regulations/medical_marijuana/practitioner/public_list.htm This is a not a complete list of physicians in the program but physicians who agreed to be publicly listed. We recommend you discuss your physicianโ€™s status and willingness to participate in the program directly with him/her.
